Just like any other beauty products, store-bought mascara generally has a lot of chemical ingredients that we never know how they might affect our eyes. And we all know how easily we can damage them, they are a very sensitive part of our body. Thus, keep reading this article and take beauty DIY projects to a whole new level with a homemade mascara. You will know what goes into the mixture and it is a great natural alternative.
Some of the ingredients listed on beauty products are Paraffin, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone, Phenethyl Alcohol, Sodium Polymethacrylate, Simethicone, Disodium Edta, and so much more. I mean, that sounds like a handful of harsh chemicals. I decided to give up completely any store-bought mascara for a healthier alternative.
When I looked throughout the Internet, I noticed that many homemade recipes don't mix together nicely, the mascara running all over the place. Also, in some recipes, the mascara doesn't dry at all. Thus, I decided to do my own personalized version. I want to share this recipe with you because I know for certain this version works flawlessly.
Let's begin. For this homemade mascara recipe, you will need 2 tsp coconut oil, 1 tsp shea butter, ;½ tsp beeswax, and ;½ tsp activated charcoal. It can't get more natural than this. These ingredients combined are working tremendously for your health so you know it is safe to use.
Then, heat the coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax in a small saucepan over low heat. I like to put mine in a glass dish over a small saucepan of boiling water, but it is not necessary. Make sure to stir continuously to get an even spread. Once these ingredients are completely melted, add the charcoal powder. Also, if you need to make a brown-black mascara, you could also add a bit of cocoa powder. After this, pour the mixture into a small container and apply with a small brush. If you find it difficult to apply, you can use a completely clean wand from an old mascara.
In conclusion, this homemade mascara recipe goes on beautifully. It is very easy and gives a nice natural boost to your lashes. Try it out and see for yourself.
