Your eating habits have a huge impact on the way you feel. The same applies to pain. Some foods can make your pain more severe, and cause inflammation, swellings, and discomfort.
Pain can be acute or chronic, ranging from mild to severe. It’s usually caused by gout, arthritis, injuries, leukemia, broken/dislocated bones, fibromyalgia, strain, lupus and bursitis.
As mentioned before, food can be thy medicine or thy poison.
We give you 100 foods to avoid when dealing with joint pain:
Sugar and artificial sugars
Sugars increase inflammation, and lead to more AGEs. Sugary foods turn on cytokines, a type of agents that trigger inflammation. These food add additional pressure to the joints, and lead to weight gain.
The same applies to soda and sweet drinks. According to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, sodas trigger the development of rheumatoid arthritis in women.
So, stay away from sodas, sweets, sugar, candies, sweet treats, sugar-loaded cereals, and pastries. Use honey, molasses or Stevia instead.
Red and processed meat
These meats contain chemical purine and nitrite which worsen the inflammation. Glycation and AGEs are also bad for your condition. A 2014 study from the Proceedings of the National Academy and Sciences found that glucan in red meat trigger the development of cancer, and makes inflammation even worse.
Another similar study was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The results confirmed the bond between red meat and inflammation.
Eggs make your swelling and inflammation worse, especially if you eat them more often. Arachidonic acid in yolks releases prostaglandinds, and fuel the inflammation. Saturated fats in eggs have a negative effect on your health.
Alcohol isn’t recommended to those who deal with joint pain. Purines in beer are later converted into uric acid, and this is definitely the last thing you need when treating joint pain. Beer is also rich in gluten which harms joints.
